Growing Rocket in Pots?

Postby Alison Wright » Mon Jun 11, 2012 12:51 am

I posted this earlier - where on earth did it go??

OK - we don't have a garden - just a patio with pots.

Our local Co-op is selling £1:00 packs of "Living Salads" in 7" x 5" shallow trays - mixed leaves in peaty soil which you keep indoors & cut as needed & will re-grow for another ten days (so the label says)

A week ago I bought their very delicious & rather peppery rocket leaves which has grown like crazy indoors faster than I can use it. So I'm wondering if I plant it outside in a pot of good compost will it (a) survive, (b) continue to produce more leaves in chilly Nth Yorks ?

Your advice/thoughts muchly appreciated.

Morning Alison

I used to grow rocket in pots in Newcastle - not all year but I used to sow some indoors then transplant at the same time the bedding plants went out.

I have to grow it os pots here - in the shade otherwise it gets sunstroke :D

It sounds as if you have nothing to lose by trying it!

Hi Alison! My mum grew rocket in a pot in her little courtyard garden - it was amazing and because it was sheltered it carried on producing delicious leaves for 2 years and then seeded itself too!! Definitely give it a go!

Thanks folks :) Well the rain stopped long enough to get it planted out, so fingers crossed it doesn't curl up & die - it was only 9C this afternoon - Brrrr! :thumbsdown
