Raising bedding plants

Postby Mamta » Thu Feb 16, 2017 9:59 am

I sowed some bedding plants yesterday, trailing nasturtiums for baskets, a few asters and marigolds for beds. I vowed last year not to grow any this year, too much care is required, but I couldn't resist buying when I saw the bright new seeds packets in a shop I visited! Also potted a few begonias in a hanging basket.
They are all in my unheated conservatory, taking up most of my work surfaces as usual! My conservatory is an extension of my kitchen, with cupboards, washing machine, dryer, sink and clothes drying stands. During spring, it is normally taken over by large trays of plants.

When does everyone here start their plants?

I start a lot of veg mid-Feb to mid-March, then as the seed trays/propagators become available I do some flowers.
OH has got sweet peas to put in now. She usually buys other bedding as plugs, but also uses Nicotiana, French marigolds and Nigella that I will sow over the next few weeks. Nasturtiums come up like weeds so we just transplant those, but used to sow them late March.
