In most Spanish bars you will find olive oil with garlic cloves in it, you dribble it on your toast in the morning, a rub of tomato, a slice of ham and delicious, never had a problem. We do it at home as well

There is a thread here with only two comments, 1 saying that most people are aware of the risk of botulism if the process isn't carried out properly. However, there is no explanation of what the proper method of preparation is.
