Gadget, you know you want it

Postby Gillthepainter » Wed May 23, 2018 11:20 am

The Wahl nano smoothie blender.
Forget the family comment, it only makes about 500ml of smoothie - enough for 2 really.

The reason I really like this purchase, not just for the price.
But it purees the smoothie in a few pulses - Zip Zip Zip.

And the main reason I really like this purchase, but I have to experiment more. When I use UHT soya milk, the smoothie sets like a mousse after it is poured.
Eat with a spoon stylee.
I'll have to get back to you on that, with more experimental drinks made.
I only tried it a few times with blueberries and half a banana. And 75ml Waitrose soya milk.

You get 4 travel pots with lids.
2 vessels for the blending with lids.

You are probably like Tony, Sue. He eats fruit fruit and more fruit.
His breakfast is piled more with apple and blueberries than breakfast.

The one thing I like about smoothies is the savoury element.
Beetroot with apple.
Banana and spinach.

I tend to just use 2 ingredients.

I don't like nibbling fruit, Sue. I wish that I did, so I love my blitzer for smoothies and I get plenty of fruit that way and as Gill mentioned, savoury smoothies.

I want it, I want it! Presumably great for 2-person soup as well. Plus Harry and Meghan's 21-room apartment to house all the kitchen fodder I'm accumulating.

Stokey Sue, I think the plan of smoothies is to get a variety of vits in palatable form all at once, then "get it down you" holding nose if necessary. It's fun to watch presenters on night time sales channels confirming how delicious a smoothie is while trying desperately not to grimace...

Like Gillthepainter, I tend to stick to two items and maybe a dessertspoonful of porridge oats which thicken overnight- if ♪Yes, we have no bananas...♪ which automatically thicken it. I've learned to strain any fruit seeds out first before re-blending with any thickening item.

Rice milk is best for me as it's very "clean" so doesn't give the dreaded fatty mouthfeel that some love, I hate.

By the way, haven't Medjool dates rocketed in price?

oh I understand what they are for but
1. the idea that smoothies are in any way palatable is a strange one from my perspective. I find them fairly repulsive

2. when I get to eating by holding my nose and forcing down gloop instead of enjoying good meals, I'll give up, except short term in the event of dental work or similar perhaps

That's a glimpse of the future, depending upon which nursing home my carer puts me into...

That could be because it's Ramadan at the moment and dates are traditionally eaten to break the fast after sunset.

And I totally agree with Sue's comments about smoothies - they make me want to heave! :vomit :vomit :vomit

You are all most odd.
Strawberry & pineapple
Banana n blackberry.

Pimp it up with peanut butter or chia seed. Or porridge as you say Jeral.
Add yoghurt.

Grapes is the only thing I dont enjoy.

Experiment with coconut milk
I havent even mentioned orange. Book me into that nursing home why dont you.
I could go on ..... And on. Somebody stop me.

Jeral, im not sure it will do soups. I think you need something more robust.
Just soft smoothie drinks really.

Gill pureed fruit and veg as a meal replacement is bad enough - adding peanut butter, oats, or chia seed :crying1

Having said which I quite like gazpacho - but I leave it with enough texture that it's clearly a soup not a shake, not keen on the ultra smooth gazpacho shots

Noooop! - gloopy doesn't do it for me either - & Himself would always have the actual fruit etc.

I did buy a blaster of a blender a couple of months or so ago - it's a right animal & sorts it all - can't think of the name right now tho'.................but it's the business.

Now gazpacho i have never got. Nor cucumber soup.
I'd rather not.
Lush, i,d love to know the brand of that gadget.
Although I'm not in the market for a purchase. I am curious tho.

Dates or prunes.
There's got to be a decent smoothie with that ingredient.

I think I,m in the minority here but.
I even love barleygrass.

Thanks for the US prices mark111757. I can remember prices but not the weights so I'll have to check at where I normally buy them and report back.

Gillthepainter, I reckon dates (and prunes) offer sweetness as well as nutrition so are a good addition to any naturally tart fruit or berries which might otherwise need refined sugar or honey - or with banana. I pop about half a dozen (= 3 per cup) in the microwave with a spot of water for 20 seconds as it makes it much easier to fish the stones out.

For the record, I'm not suggesting that smoothies should replace eating delicious fruit as is. A lot of fruit just isn't delicious or juicy though as it's not usually ripened before picking so is dry and often has a funny taste to me. Tinned versions of some fruits are better, e.g. mangos, guava halves. (Some value brand tins should stay on the shelf.)

  Definitely I believe in the old adage: " Whatever rocks your boat " !! :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

I prefer my fresh fruit ( wild or sustainable or bio ) whole to nibble after a lunch and dinner or as a " snack meal " of cheese and bread & wine !!

I like fresh squeezed juices from veggies or fruits but not crazy about " Smoothies " .. ( never cow milk or soy :vomit ) ..

Have a lovely evening .. :wave :wave :wave :wave :wave :wave :wave :wave

Hi again mark111757 re Medjool date prices.

The local store I buy Medjool dates from are charging £9.99 for 900g (c.2lbs), for three different brands offered, all with stone in.

So, "mine" are cheaper than yours by approx 17% at current exchange rate £:$ 1.34 as I'm paying $5 for 3/4 lb.

A respected supermarket here, Waitrose.com is charging as below, when converted to 12 ozs using exchange rate of 1.34 £:$:

$5.94 (ordinary stone in); [your $5.99]
$6.48 (ordinary pitted); [your $6.99]
$5.94 (organic, assume stone in as doesn't say pitted); [your10.5oz @ $7.99 is a whopping $9.13 for 12 ozs]

Quite how "organic" is verifiably certified I've no idea when the trees are a few thousand miles away.

Brain hurts now, but worth it to see how we compare :)

And today on the menu, I have:

Banana, mango & soya yoghurt. Bzzzzz bzzzzz bzzzzz.
I may even reignite my kefir interest.

The Waitrose cafe has got smoothies on their noticeboard menu.
I doubt I can have 2 in one day.

Still trying to think of a date combo ......

I don't like savoury smoothies (and since I eat more veg than fruit anyway, I don't see the need to contaminate good fruit with veg ;) ).
I used to make yoghurt and milk based smoothies with banana as the main ingredient, but these days prefer buttermilk, because of the lower calory content.

All this faff about smoothies, as if they were something brand new and special.
Venezuelans often start the day with a "batido" - fruit and a little sugar, perhaps -and an arepa. Strawberry, pineapple, soursop, mango, peach, melon, watermelon, pawpaw, passionfruit, orange, grapefruit, blackberry or my favourite, the 3-in-1: (one for you, Gill) beetroot, carrot and orange.
Just whack the fruit in a blender, add a little sugar if you like, a bit of water if necessary, blitz and drink.
They´ve been "normal" over here for more than 50 years!
