Re: CHATTERBOX
I nearly fell of the computer chair laughing at the Guardian review. On the plus side, at least the packaging is as twee as the innards by the sounds of it. I must remember to warn Mr Strictly about this variation because I don't think he will like it either. BTW if I want chocolate, I don't want it to taste like a Lush soap/bath bomb or strawberry yogurt! Whoever thought it was worth making needs their head examining! I have the same issue with sun dried apricots because I can't abide liquorice flavoured anything!

Masquerade Costume Prizes: Ever Win an Award ?
Have you ever gone to a Masquerade Ball, Discotec, Private Party etcetra, and won an award for the best costume ?
My husband and I had won an award for the best costumes, in which we exceptionally prepared the costumes with a rental shop specialising in theatrical costumes and accessories.
My husband and I dressed as: A ninja and a geisha .. It was alot of fun .. As I am naturally blonde and light eyed, I had to wear dark sepia or coffee brown contact lenses and a wig of course .. The kimono was flawless ..

Barcelona, soulful & spirited, filled with fine art, amazing architecture, profoundly steeped in culture & history, and it engages all your senses, and food fancies.

What fun, Alexandria!
We don't seem to go much for that kind of thing in the UK, unless anyone knows different?!! In Germany, of course, as Uschi will tell you, they have all the carnivals there, which are so colourful with quite outrageous costumes and coloured wigs!
Could it be that we are not as outgoing as others, here in the UK? The world seems to be so full of doom and gloom every time I read a newspaper, so I think that it is good to get away from all that occasionally!

Plenty of costume competitions for chiildren I think, I remember being dressed as a little Dutch girl aged about six and that still happens
Also the big Notting Hill carnival has costume displays and competitions, but those aren't for individuals on the whole but for the clubs.
I have judged the Halloween fancy dress at a local pub, and have been to private fancy dress parties where a small prize has been given to the best costume; partner and I got commended forcoming in matching costumes, as pirates, which was funny as he neglected to tell me it wa fancy dress so I had 3 hours to make costumes out what was in the house
The only costume I have hired was a Marlene Dietrich style show girl tuxedo costume for a birthdayparty. I was thinner then!
We really don't have the masquerade tradition here for things lije Mardi Grasand I don't think Protestan countries do so much as Catholic ones?

Re: CHATTERBOX
I don't know if we were strange in our younger days but we often had and went to fancy dress parties.
We once won a prize at a village fete here in Provence - in the 1980s - when a whole group of us Brits who holidayed together went as St George and the dragon. Most of us were the dragon. I made the head from cardboard boxes. My friend and I caused a stir in the supermarket when we went to choose boxes and stood there trying them on our heads. The dragon had a tail made of a branch with a GB sticker attached and the body was made from a green bedsheet with dozens of crepe paper scales. Flames, also crepe paper. could be poked in and out of it's mouth.
DD , dressed in my nightdress and with a connical cardboard headdress draped with the net curtains from the gite window, was the damsel in distress. DS in kitchen foil armour with a white teeshirt with cross and a metal collander helmet was St George.
The mayor asked if he could have the dragon's head and it was still on show at the mairie years later

Re: CHATTERBOX
Thinking about it - weren't fancy dress parties for the hell of it - not to 'win' an 'award' - bit too boring an attitude In my book - I can remember a ( very) few in student days which I wouldn't like to repeat here, but fantastic fun for that time of life - I do remember busting out of a tiered 'cake' in full Marilyn Monroe black corset, suspenders & fishnets singing 'Happy Birthday' to whoever..............
I haven't admitted that for quite a while..........

Is that fancy dressed enough for you? That's me in the red hat, seems like a lifetime ago, but about 12 years ago in a Glam Rock tribute band.

I think I love you
so what am I so afraid of
Okay, David Cassidy isn't glam rock.
1st prize from me, Sakkarin.
Never won a fancy dress, but I have won the meat raffle before.
My mum and dad only had a little freezer bit at the top of the little fridge. And didn't know what to do with everything. We gave it away to friends and neighbours.
It was huge, plus 100 eggs.

but I have won the meat raffle before.
Years ago I was in York for a wedding. Friday night before the ceremony on the Saturday we went down the pub. There was a fight and I won the meat raffle. The two events were not connected.
Re: CHATTERBOX
I once won a humongous turkey that was about 30lb - far to big to fit in my oven and no room in the freezer to portion it and freeze, so I gave it to a local restaurant! Got a few free meals for it.
