The thought of cold soup with a dollop of goats cheese in the middle seems quite unpleasant to me.

How many people is this for?

Because there are some very expensive ingredients in there, and it has to go round a lot of people to get down to £10 per head

And are they including the saffron, Ricard, and pimrnt d'espelette etc. in the price or assuming you already have them? You'd have to spend quite a lot to get a whole packet of dried morels to use 10g. Why "Provence" olive oil (stupidly expensive)

And my bete noire - 1 bunch / half a bunch of a herb - no standard size for a bunch in the UK

It's the messed about cheese that puts me off, if you have a good raw milk Camembert, why not just serve it?

Hmm. Without seeing the article and whether there are mix and match choices, the dishes shown look more like an advertising plug for dairy products ;) Not to mention that lamb shoulder itself is as much fat as meat so serving eight is fine if four will be going without ;)

Was it a spoof given there's up to £80 to play with? I.e. Ought to be able to do better?

PS Stokey Sue's post just in. Quite so. I'd rather spend more on good meat and veg.

I missed the 8

I think a whole shoulder of lamb is enough for 8 when it's one of 4 courses

But I don't think it's very realistic as a project

I think yet another candidate for the "Pretentious-Moi?" society

For instance. Who is going to serve two courses featuring cheese?

Cold soups, delicious though they are are surely for summer days.

You would only use pastis in any recipe if you alredy have some in the house - or pop round to mine to "borrow a cup of it"

Out of interest I looked on Sous Chef for some of the ingredients

https://www.souschef.co.uk/catalogsearch/result/?q=Morel

To get 10 g of dried morels you need to buy a 20 g tub of them for £12

The smallest size of Piment d'Espelette costs £6.95

And so on and so forth

Here is the article from Thursday's times 2

Not to open a Pandoras box further, the apple tart recipe caught my eye....

Mark, :thumbsup :thumbsup

These recipes are quite lovely .. especially the cold fennel soup ..

However, I do not know the equivalent to Euros ..

Is this 10 pounds per dish ?

Sounds fishy to me ! Faux Advert in other words ..

Have a nice weekend .. :thumbsup :thumbsup

It is £10 for each person served

£10 = €11.34 = $13.94

Stokey Sue,

Euros 13.94 ( 14 Euros ) .. The price of an upscale Spanish laboral day lunch ..

Quite reasonable for the level of the carte ..

Suspicious minds .. Hard to believe ..

Thank you, and have a nice weekend ..

No, 14 US dollars 11 euros

This is a set of recipes to cook at home, a dinner party, with only the ingredients to count towards the cost

But it's a cheat, because the cost only includes the amount of food used, even if you have to pay for much more than you use (so pehaps you buy a pot of piment costing £7 and use a 5ml teaspoon but they count only 50p or less for the recioe)

Sue,

Understand ..

Cooking at home tends to be pricey ..

For 10 or 11 - 14 Euros, we eat a 3 course lunch here in Spain ..

It costs more to make it at home after all the shopping is done and the time spent ..

Have a nice weekend ..

Ah, many thanks, it makes much more sense now.

A French embassy menu designed for French diners, so naturally showcasing French produce (e.g.French cheese/dairy).

That said, the chef probably didn't include the cost of air miles, in his cooking budget i.e. specifically flying the food in fresh for his proposed meal ;)

Therefore, I see the menu recipes now as information only of what was served in the French embassy.
