Do you read Food Magazines ?
Food Magazines are one of my grand passions .. I have a subscription to several ..
1) Thuriès Gastronomie Magazine - In French ..
2) Yam Magazine - In French .. Published By: Michelin Star Chef Yannick Alleno ..
3) Elle Gourmet - In Spanish ..
4) Four Magazine - In English (published in London ) ..
5) Sobre la mesa - In Spanish .. ( On the Table is the translation )
6) El Club Gourmet - In Spanish - the oldest top notch Food Magazine in Spain - 1936 ..
Unfortunately, several of the New York City based publications do not ship abroad, so I read Saveur and Food & Wine online ..
Have a lovely day ..

Re: Do you read Food Magazines ?
My Saveaurs - French -arrived this morning. I love it.
I used to get Olive - UK- but I went off it after a year - very poor recipe testing
I sometimes buy Elle a Table and Cuisine Gourmande.
Having recently decided to rationaliZe my cook/food books and magazines I have found the the magazine in particular often repeat themselves, even in different languages. For example a recipe and photograph in Olive of 2015 had appeared in Cuisine Gourmande two years previously.
When DD was in the USA she sometimes sent me American Saveurs but I told her to stop wasting her money it was full of repeats and poor recipe testing.

Joan,
Yes, I know .. Magazine journalists sell to all who purchase their articles .. So the repeated ..
However, you would like Thuriès and Yam .. ( French ) ..
Top notch quality and the product knowledge is accurate and amazingly executed with phenomenal photography ..
I do not buy Saveur or Bon Appetit or Food and Wine from New York City ( read on line ) ..
Have a great day ..

Re: Do you read Food Magazines ?
I don't read print magazines or newspapers due to my eyesight now and I never subscribed to any routinely, unless you count Good Housekeeping
I agree with Joan, repetitive, and often in both Olive and Good Food what I consider "cheat" versions of dishes, and incresingly elements of faddy fake nutrition
I have occasionally bought food or women's magazines in other countries to get a feel for local cuisine, I spent 3 months in South Africa, so I was cooking and it was interesting to find out how locals used the wonderful seasonal ingredients in the farmer's market. I also used to buy some French ones to keep my French home cooking for OH up to date, he could pick from the photos
I tend to look at recipes online

Re: Do you read Food Magazines ?
I agree with Sue about the "cheat" recipes and faddy fake nutrition. Increasingly, I'm seeing recipes that are by well known chefs and sound interesting from the description but when I look at the ingredients list, I see things like "curry powder" or "jar of tikka paste" - not for me, I'm afraid.

Re: Do you read Food Magazines ?
I used to subscribe to "Gourmet" magazine and to "Bon Appetit".
I got bored with them after a few years; especially when I realised you can find all this stuff on the internet!

Re: Do you read Food Magazines ?
I used to buy several food magazines many years ago, which included BBC Good Food magazine, Taste and Olive. I can't remember the rest! Now, I mostly look online or find a recipe in one of my many books.
Alexandria, you seem to have access to several excellent magazines.

Re: Do you read Food Magazines ?
I used to get Good food magazine but stopped about 18 months-2 years ago now. I got increasingly fed up with the new food trends which don't suit either me or Mr Strictly. I regularly look at the website
for an American magazine called A Taste of Home for ideas. The link is below if anyone is interested. Be warned, some of the mixtures do sound a bit bizarre, and a lot of the baking recipes used boxed cake mix!

Re: Do you read Food Magazines ?
@ Renée,
I receive Thuriès Gastronomie and Yam Magazines in French, because of 2 main reasons ..
1st: Exemplary quality ..
2nd: To keep up my French !
I am not too impressed with the Gourmet Magazine now ( only online ) Saveur, Bon Appetit or Food and Wine from New York City.
There are some nice recipes and wonderfully beautiful photography in House & Garden - The U.K. Edition and buy it from time to time however, it is quite expensive in Spain ..
Sorry, it took me so long to answer, however, I was in italy, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday attending a Gastro Eno Trade Fair and also had a Travel Tourism collaboration meeting with a friend of a friend. So, I have been very busy ..

Stokey Sue,
I have a very dear friend, who is a Publishing Author, Doctor, and Tourism Operator in Capetown, South Africa. He is a dear friend of my husband and I and they are Italian from Verona.
I have to ask them if they would send me a couple of food magazines from Capetown ..
We had seen them Friday however, I had not been online at The Food Board all weekend ..
Thank you for your feedback ..
Hope you had a nice weekend.

@ Karakoolaide,
I adored Gourmet Magazine when it was in print ..
Now, it is online and sorry to state, no where nearly as wonderfully written ..
I had saved a few print editions which specialised in France and Italy ..
Thank you for joining us ..

I used to buy House and Garden from time to time and not just for the recipes, especially for long trips. Unfortunately it's become almost impossible to get where I live in France - don't even have it at Montparnasse station. But there's the internet
The magazine as a whole
http://www.houseandgarden.co.uk/
Recipes
http://www.houseandgarden.co.uk/topic/recipes
I had a look at Yam on line but found it a bit too cheffy . For classic French recipes I tend
to go to Chef Simon's site
http://chefsimon.lemonde.fr/
particularly useful for techniques

Buenas noches (good night)

Re: Do you read Food Magazines ?
Not really an answer on the magazine subject, but an intriguing aside.
I don't buy foodie magazines any more, but to check out the current state of play, I thought I'd pick up a few freebies. I went to Waitrose, as I thought their magazine (which used to be quite respected I understand), was free, It turned out it was £2.00, and with a quick flick through, I didn't bother.
Here's the point: I threw out all my old magazines a while back, but I kept the odd issue or two for old times sake, and I dug out an April 2000 copy of Waitrose Food Illustrated magazine.
It was £2.00 back then too (although it says free with the Observer), 18 years ago!
Nowt to do with food, but I was horrified to see that the new tabloid Guardian is £2.00.
(EDIT: Swapped the "free" comment, it referred to the old mag, not the current one...)
