BARGAIN BASEMENT
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
Yeah I think when we got it, you could choose a main and side, drink or chocolates then either a starter or dessert. Now you get both.

Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
These deals are getting me down.
I was in M&S, trying to buy sliced ham. Everything was diddy packets, 3 for £7. Totally uneconomical.
And Waitrose has lotsa 3 packets for £10.
I don't want 3 packets. I've got not room in my freezer.

Thanks smitch.
We've now steeled ourselves not to buy three for £5 etc, mostly. There's wedges of cheese Waitrose do 2 for £4 which keep well in the fridge.
Bertolli was reduced in Waitrose and Sainsbury's at the weekend.
500g jars of Helman's in Waitrose as well.

Waitrose wine/champagne offer - 25% off for six bottles or more (mixed). Finishes on November 7th.
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
Bit far to travel I know, but I just saw this menu from Mayapur in India posted online. 60 rupees for Masala Dhosa. That's 70p. It's £4.50 here!
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
Oooh lovely! Maybe I could make some of them for about that cost ... on second thoughts, maybe not!
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
Great offer on coffee beans at Tesco, as already mentioned on Aeropress thread.
I've just bought enough TF Sumatran to last till Christmas... and a pack of Starbucks Espresso beans to check them out - they were already on my coffee bucketlist, was waiting for special offer price. Probably too strong for me though.

I wish that I was nearer to a Tesco!
I use instant during the week and bought a 200g jar of Kenko Smooth for £4. It is normally about £6.

Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
I use instant decaff to flavour hot water close to bed time. I've used Kenco but recently L'Or (Douwe Egberts' new instant) has been much cheaper due I think to launch offers.
Much nicer too IMO

Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
I've just bought a jar of L'Or decaf to try, will be using it for the first time shortly. Caffeine gives me migraines so I can't drink normal coffee. I grind my own beans at the weekend, we buy from a local artisan roaster, but can't be bothered during the week.
I'm not keen on Starbucks coffee, tastes bitter and over roasted to me. I always need to add sugar if I buy an Americano from the concession at work.

Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
I've got half a teasp of instant left.
For half a cup of black coffee. I've overdone the instant for some months.
Back to filter. Black too.

Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
Waitrose yellow sticker section has some genuine bargains, however couldn't help noticing a small pack of smoked and flamed pieces of chicken. 130g for £2.49 reduced from £2.99 - not my idea of a bargain. Not surprised they didn't sell.
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
I don't usually buy that product, Dennis, but I did buy it from Sainsbury's recently and really enjoyed it. The chicken was lovely.
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
Butter now £1.60. I reckon the bread and marg days are on the way back. Or if it is butter, "bread and scrape". For now I'm going to make the most of it.
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
I have a milkman, so haven't noticed if the price of milk is going up in parallel. If it is, let's hope a bigger share is going to the farmer. I suspect not.
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
Butter is made from cream rather than milk. I made some a few years ago with a reduced price tub of double cream, which did work out cheaper than buying butter. At full price for the cream, I don't think there'd be much in it. It can be a bit off a faff making it too.
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
Yes, I can imagine it would be a bit of a faff, Pampy. I haven't made it since I was in primary school!
Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
Waitrose Essentials Butter is £2.97 for 500g. Must confess we've no idea how much it's increased - we just pick up a pack, not looking at the price.
5k bag of Wilja was 99p in our local greengrocer's this morning. Too heavy for me to carry.
Greengrocer says potatoes are cheap at the moment.

Re: BARGAIN BASEMENT
I have noticed recently, that the weight of bags of potatoes in supermarkets has reduced.
