March Long Bank Holiday Weekends ?
The weekend of March 19th, is Father´s Day here is Spain and Saint Joseph´s Day ..
March 17th is Saint Patrick´s Day, and not a bank holiday in Spain, however, is quite a festive occasion wherein the thousands of Irish Pubs on the Iberian Peninsula, host celebrations and the Irish Expatriates are all decked out in Green ..
Of course, Saint Joseph´s day also represents The Fallas (flames or fires), an ancient festivity held in Valencia.
Plans ? We shall be going out with Dad and my Father for lunch with the rest of the family .. We were just discussing to make a reservation ..
Does any one have any holidays in March ?
Have a lovely day ..

Re: March Long Bank Holiday Weekends ?
We don't get a public holiday in the UK until Friday 30th March, Good Friday which is the start of Easter, and we have Easter Monday too on second April
When I was a child Good Friday was almost the quietest day of the year; it was the only day apart from Christmas that no newspaper was printed and no shop opened.
I don't have any plans yet for Easter but will probably eat Hot Cross Buns which are traditionally eaten for breakfast after Mass on Good Friday, but most people just eat them when it suits them. And paschal lamb will feature too.
Our Mothering Sunday is part of Lent, and is Sunday 11 March. Originally the day when servants returned to their mother church, and of course popped in to see their mum too. Now it's all about mums, who get flowers, cards and traditionally a Simnel cake (dried fruit and marzipan). These days everyone seems to take their mum out for Sunday lunch so I avoid the relevant pubs and restaurants.
St Patricks day is not a holiday in England, but London has a St Patrick's day parade and as it is a weekend apparently we get a three day festival in Trafalgar Square this year

Re: March Long Bank Holiday Weekends ?
No public holidays here in March, because Good Friday is not a holiday here,
I will make hot cross buns in the British tradition though - my friends here expect Les petits pains de vendredi sainte - just as they have come to expect mince pies at Christmas - they call them "Mince (meaning thin in French) pees"
Our rush of public holidays come in May because Whitsun (Pentecote) is so early. It gets to be ridiculous. Kicks off with May Day, closely followed by Liberation of the 8th and then Pentcote which is a big local celebration with parades a fairground etc etc. In other words great to avoid!

Re: March Long Bank Holiday Weekends ?
We get two bank holidays in May
Early May bank holiday: Monday 7 May.
Spring bank holiday: Monday 28 May.
Everyone calls "Early May bank holiday" May day, so I'm not sure why we aren't getting it on 1st May, which is also a Monday , perhaps that's just too socialist for a Tory government

Perhaps Linnet, I thought I'd checked in my calendar, but since I retired I'm not that fussed!

Re: March Long Bank Holiday Weekends ?
Hmm, the first Monday is the 7th as the 1st May is Tuesday. And I don't care how much of my new bottle of rum I've drunk today as it's all over the hills and far away. March is closer, a day away, but with this weather the immediate plan is to survive this weather (and fuel bills). Then see...

Hoping for some good weather, then we would take the family boat out .. or perhaps we shall drive down the Mediterranean coast ..
Thank you for all your wonderful feedback ..

Not a bank holiday. But it both mine and Tiffs birthday on the 16th March, and it is her 30th so I am taking her to Malta for the week.

Whitefield Foodie,
Wow .. Happy Birthday and have a marvelous time in Malta ..
This archipelago of 3 islands, just 58 miles south of Sicilia, is simply heavenly wonderful and Valletta is picturesque and filled with ancient buildings, fortificaions and precipitous narrow streets ..
A couple of foodie suggestions include:
Hobtz Bizzejt: A hand made bread topped with tomatoes and capers and drizzled with Evoo ..
Imqaret: A date pastry ..
Timpana: A macaroni Pastry ..
Pastizzi: Savory cheese tarts ..
Have a very wonderful and safe trip ..

Re: March Long Bank Holiday Weekends ?
Well I was going to post an image of some nice hot cross buns, but there seems to be a problem with posting to BB code
I like them fresh and soft, when they are split and eaten buttered
Then the next day they are split and toasted before buttering. I'm never sure whther or not I prefer them toasted!
I'll leave those who have made them to post recipes, though I am thinking of trying Dan Lepard's recipe

Re: March Long Bank Holiday Weekends ?
Here's some hot cross buns I made years ago Alexandria, with the full cross. These days I don't bother with the cross, as they are delicilous spiced buns anyway.
The recipe I use is a Delia Smith recipe from her 1974 "Evening Standard Cookbook", which I have posted on here in the past. I'll see if I can find it later.
I made some Dan Lepard buns one year that were excellent (the piccy says "banana buns", I think this is a pic of them), but I like the traditional buns best, to be honest. Dan is a baker, rather than a chef.
EDIT: P.S. I made some last night. All gone now.

Re: March Long Bank Holiday Weekends ?
I forgot I did a bake along online with Dan Lepard back in the day.
Inclusive of tip for those crosses.
Looks like I infused camomile tea in there. There's a link to the recipe.
