mark111757, I often wonder who Mary appeals to and why, enough to warrant her being on TV almost continuously. Do you watch her?

Masterchef is something I watch and its spinoffs, usually in blocks or I forget who's who.

I watched the Professionals final today. As ever, it's staggering what they produce and how on earth they manage so many disparate things in three hours. I'd love to stand there and watch for the whole three hours.

I gave up during Mary's Everyday Cookery

Everyday apparently included a posh picnic in a vintage Bemtley ans a ruby wedding anniversary

An easy week night meal required putting into the oven at 15.30 in the afternoon, so obviously perfect for working parents

And a dinner party dish that will surprise your guests allegedly is salmon fillets topped with cream cheese. Yeah, let's forget it featured on a Philadelphia advert about 10 or in fact more years ago as in easy meal suggestion

Jeral....I do watch her. I have downloaded several series and the recipes that go with them. I might describe it as calm cooking. Unlike a lot of the nonsense on food network UK or us...or other food outlets

Sue....have you ever tried the salmon and cream cheese?? Something like this???

I have to say that does look very nice, Mark and there will be a contrast of textures. One to try, I think!

I used to go to lunchtime music concerts at a church in Bolton and one of the church ladies used to make delicious tartlettes. The filling was a mix of lemon curd and whipped double cream and then fresh raspberries were placed on top. When I asked about the recipe, I was told that it was one of Mary Berry's.

I will be watching, for the same reason as Mark. I way not necessarily want to buy the book though, because I have quite a few of hers in my collection. I always use her all-in-one method when baking sponges that are normally with the creaming method.

I think I did make a version when I first saw the cream cheese and salmon combo

But the point is not whether it is a reasonable recipe, it is that she is so out of touch she thinks a recipe that was on TV adverts nearly 20 years ago will be a novelty that will surprise us!

Nope - she's not for me anymore - I used to watch her progs way back & have a few of her books which I always found to be reliable - but now I can't bear watching her or listening to her 'Mary Berry' brand patronising voice.

Like many others, she is totally a victim of over exposure & unwatchable.

As I am in my mid forties, I can't really remember seeing Mary on the TV much whilst I was growing up, although she probably was. I was familiar with her name thanks to a couple of her books that I bought when I first started working. As we had an Aga n the restaurant that I worked in, there was also a copy of her Aga cookbook lurking about in the kitchen. Therefore I am watching her programmes for the first time. I can't be alone in this, given her popularity since GBBO!

I don't remember her being on TV much before GBBO, just the books and magazine articles and occasional appearances on afternoon TV

I just think that it is time she retired and I hate the ridiculous sycophancy and kow-towing that any mention of her name now seems to provoke. She's an elderly cook book writer with no sense of humour, not a godess after all

 That article made me giggle Mark, so thanks for sharing it with us. As I watched the programme last night on catch up, I do agree that the flirting was outrageous, and very funny!
