Blimey those do look good! Half way between a pancake and a rosti. One of those with some flaked smoked haddock and a poached egg, anybody?
Re: aloo cheela pancakes
I'm going to have to try those:
Mamta's pancakes here are not a million miles away, but those look better because they've been cooked as out and out snacks rather than "wrapper" pancakes....

I love Chilla pancakes, plain or with all sorts of additions to the batter and with all sorts of different batters. I have 10-12 different recipes on my website. You can make them with all sorts of additions.
They are one of my standby meals, like for unexpected people for lunch. My dad used to love them, so my mum used to make them quite a lot.
In fact, I have some Pakora batter in the fridge right now, leftover from yesterday (made some to take to a friend). I was thinking of making chillas out of them for dinner tonight. Besan flour is so much easier to handle/spread than wheat flour, so they are easy to make.

Here are my potato and onion chilla pancakes. For me, they need to be crisp and hot and not too thick, just like my mum used to make. If you want to have a look, I just wrote the recipe as I would make them. here they are.

Oh, I could just dive into that plateful! I'm definitely going to make some very soon. Do you think they could be made with sweet potato?
Re: aloo cheela pancakes
They look better than mine, which I made to Gill's recipe. They looked cheerful in the pan, but a little jaded when they sat waiting for me to finish.
I had to add considerably more flour than the recipe suggested to make something approaching a batter, and I had the usual problem I have with rostis, which is I'm never quite sure when they're done.
They were tasty enough though, if a bit oily.
My blender died making the green chutney! Not quite up in flames, but lots of acrid white smoke. It was rubbish anyway, a Kenwood bottom-of-the-range.

Of course. You have given me and idea to make some with sweet potato and may be a little honey and green cardamom powder
Re: aloo cheela pancakes
Sakkarin, they look delicious. Indian chillas are usually much thinner, more like pancakes. Addition of vegetables of course will make them thicker than the very thin plain ones.
Re: aloo cheela pancakes
Mamta, you have just reminded me of what I was going to make! I have been racking my brains trying to remember. I also bought the besan flour a while ago. I like the thin pancakes.
Sakkarin, yours look good too!

Besan flour is also very good for making all kinds of vegetable koftas Renee.

OOOo, very nice cooking from you both.
And thank you for the expert hints and tips. You were quicker than I off the mark.
Did you see in the notes at the bottom, Sakks, that you have to squeeze those potatoes extremely well, or you will end up adding more flour?
Maybe that's what happened.
Shame about that blender too.
When my 20yr old died, I got a Bosch compact which seems fine so far.

My stick blender is a Bosch. I'd have treated myself to a Bamix but can't justify replacing one that's working well.

Something? No - there´s NOTHING better.
Isn´t it an interesting phenomenon; so many countries adore fried food!
