Yesterday our fishmonger had bought in 50k of lemon sole. Bought six for £12. Four are in the freezer, two we had last night. Lovely.

He does supply local restaurants so I'm sure they will all go.

Not much good to the rest of you, I'm afraid.

Oh thanks, Sue! I would never have guessed! :D

What a lucky buy Dennis. I am so envious. :( Obviously they must freeze down well, otherwise you wouldn't be doing it! How do you wrap them for the freezer?

Renée, Sam put two in separate plastic bags, straight in the freezer in those bags. We've done that for years. Never a problem.

With about three/four slices each of sauté potatoes done in the oven - goose fat. Plus, a serving spoonful of frozen peas.

Lemon sole - on a baking tray with olive oil, lemon juice, herbs and a slice of tomato to add colour.

If we've been over eating in the week, sometimes we'll have it without potatoes.

Sometimes I marinate in wine, oil and herbs. Occasionally add bread crumbs.

That's fennel Renée, we've a couple of plants in the garden, they don't spread but if not cut back they grow to about three feet with very fine fronds.

We both like fish Gill, I'll go over to the 'eating' thread to continue.

Dear me, Tesco own-brand butter is now up to £1.45 from 89p not so long ago, Comte is up to £3.00 from £2.00, coffee beans up from £2.00 to £2.29.

Yes, there was a warning that butter prices were going to increase, but that's a lot!

Coffee seems to be going through one of its periodic price hikes as well, though I note the Alg haven't put their prices up yet, maybe I should stock up,

Food seems to be becoming a luxury item with these price increases.

What's driving me mad is the sneaky way they're reducing sizes - Tesco in particular is very guilty of this - lots of usual 500gms down to 375gms etc. - no price reduction, but they do take the stuff off the shelves for a while & then reintroduce them back in smaller sizes as ' New'

And don't get me started on loo rolls...........!!
