Spam Attacks

Postby Sakkarin » Sat May 12, 2012 10:14 am

We've just had a bout of Spam attacks, so I'm reintroducing the "Capcha" panel on the registration page (the almost unreadable letters that you have to type in). Eventually I will introduce the "moderation" mode, where initial posts are vetted before someone becomes a full member.

UPDATE: I've used a much more readable version than the previous one.

Why does the system pick up that it's the spammer's birthday today, Sakkarin?

I think it is probably an automated Spambot, and just puts in the day it registered as its birthday to draw attention to itsself.

Glad you spotted it before it did too much damage. The "Capcha" is a good idea though, and a more readable version is much better than the hyroglyphics you get on some of them.

I remember spending about 10 mins. trying to enter an ITV competition once because I couldn't make out what was written and the audio version wasn't working either.

LOL! So did I! But then I wondered if it it was the other spam and it was. Just wanted to say that when I registered some of the capcha images were hard to make out and I had to try it three times before I got it right. I'm usually pretty ok at that sort of thing but some of the numbers and letters were overlaid on each other and intertwined so that it was hard to see what they were.

The new ones I've introduced are far more legible than the original ones. Logout and click the "register" button and you'll see...

I am colour blind so those thinggies are impossible for me to read! I am sure they are a good idea as long as M is around to read them for me!
