Yes Puss I've bought a few new things already ..... I've gone for ivory doors, sparkly grey quartz worktops (including a breakfast bar), electric double oven with a microwave on top and a gas hob. LED lights and a Karmdean floor complete the picture. The splashback is being replaced tomorrow as it isn't symmetrical and we need to start painting soon. The room looks twice as big as before and I have much more usable worktop due to the breakfast bar so I'm very happy! The overall colour is grey, ivory and white so I'm thinking about having dark red gloss on the door to the utility room (it has a glass panel so it's not too big a slab of colour) and maybe the same colour kitchen blind. This will match my raspberry red Kmix stand mixer and my toaster. I'm being reasonably coordinated for once! :D :D

Ha! Seeing your comments about the theme being red, it made me think of my bathroom, which desperately needs an updat - it still has a grey suite, from the 80s/90s!

I had a quick Google, to see if anyone even remembered the very brief time that grey suites were in vogue (mine replaced an avacado suite :vomit ), and I found a company that not only remembers them, but seems to specialise in making repro suites in :vomit colours!

My friend wanted a dark chocolate bathroom suite she'd seen in a showroom, and her husband spent a week talking her out of it without success so he asked fo rmy help

I told her that another friend had a navy one, and it looked a mess if anyone took any form of soap near it; in fact it looked filthy 90% of the time (all true)

We heard no more about it!

When I moved in to this house it had a primrose yellow bathroom suite, dark brown tiles with a floral design and carpet up the side of the bath. It was ripped out soon after we moved in!
In the 80s a lot of kitchen kit was themed a tomatoey red and yes, I still have knives and other such stuff that colour ... my new red is darker and more contemporary .... well that's what I say to my family who tease me about going back to the 80s anyway
PS my new oven comes with a pre-prepared pizza cooking option, who would have thought anyone needed that?!!

For a new-build flat I was buying in 80's, I ordered a choc brown suite rather than the then boring default avocado. Boy was I glad that the builder accidentally installed it in the wrong flat, phew! I er "grudgingly" lol said I'd live with the avocado. Didn't half look different from the glossy mag pics...

A different kitchen, I almost replaced with an impulse buy until I realised it gave me no more cupboard space. and finished up with a galley kitchen (cupboards more useful than space). They're like Tardis in reverse aren't they?

Happy Violas

Lots of joy and good food from the new kitchen - sounds lovely.

When we bought our house in newcastle in 1972 we went for the bathroom of the moment - avocado of course. It took us the next 25 years to find the money to change it to white and then we sold the house a couple of years later.

We still have a very strange pink bathroom here - we don't use it much ( we do have alternatives!!) It would be so expensive and disruptive to replace it we keep putting off the evil day. It has a stork standing in a reed bed in the tiles on the wall and the one and only time Mum saw it she declared she wasn't having a bath with "that bird" watching her.

BBC Home Page.

Would anyone who uses this please have a look at the technology section. There seems to be something strange there. I don't know if it is my computer, though a bug check says it isn't, or the BBC site. Maybe they are just trying to make up the defficit ;) ;)

Afternoon folks. Happy Violas your kitchen sounds lovely. Lets hope there are lots of nice food coming from there and some pictures too. Mine is Black err sort of with light tan cupboards with a stainless steel hood.

This is the colour of worktops and the same colour door fronts and floor as in the picture.

Didn't know Tesco were doing kitchens now...

The oven and hob are electric, boy do I miss having a gas stove.

Our bathroom is white and wouldn't have it any other way. When my eldest was a baby back in the eighties I had an Avacado bathroom suite put in and wished forever that I hadn't. It was white to begin with and wish I had left it like that, took me years to get another.

Joan, just checked the Beeb homepage and it looks fine to me.

It is absolutely hissing down here and have washed the sheets!

I've just looked at my BBC Home Page and it's still there. There is an article which explains where junk mail comes from. I'm wondering if it only appears in certain areas?

OH was on his way to Morrisons and he found three of their trolleys stuck together. Took them back and they have now given him a ten quid voucher for his trouble. So that is our meat sorted for easter. :clap

That was very good of Morrisons, HH! Many years ago I've had to struggle with stuck trolleys, but I haven't come across that problem in a long time.

The wind has dropped here at last, although it did try to snow today. I got very warmed up at my Zumba class and felt great afterwards.

My GD wants to come and stay at the weekend and plans to do lots of cooking! Roast duck has been requested with sausagemeat stuffing, but I said that apple sauce might be better to serve with a fatty meat. She will be 16 in May and plans to join the Army, after being in the cadets for a couple of years. Before that, she did three years with the St. John's Ambulance junior section.

Hi Renée

How lovely to see your grandaughter!

If she wants to join the army it seems obvious to me that she should consider the RAMC (medical corps).

I don't know if you saw the BBC drama - Our Girl - on Sunday? It was very moving and inspirational as well.

As you may know our son-in-law is currently in Afghanistan CO of the medical group. He is based in Germany and our daughter and the two children arrive here on Saturday. The older the children get the harder it is when their dad is away - though he much prefers to be in the thick of it rather than doing the sort of desk jobs people of his rank tend to get landed with.

Anyway - have a lovely time with her and all the very best to her for whatever the future holds.

PS my dad was also RAMC during the second world war.
