It's National Baking Week!

Postby Alison Wright » Mon Oct 15, 2012 1:57 am

Oct 15th - 21st. Any plans for a bake-fest this week?

OH has been overseas for a month & made a list of the things he's longed for while away. Corned beef, onion & tater pie, Victoria sandwich, lemon drizzle cake, custard tart, cheese scones & lemon meringue pie - & my name wasn't even mentioned!

Maybe - but not all in the same week - there's a fresh baked Yorkshire tea loaf & some h/m Cornish pasties in the freezer to be going on with! I'll see how I feel on Thursday or Friday - I might surprise him!

I made a multicereal loaf and a boiled fruit cake to sustain M and I en route to London. Apart from that I am afraid you will have to get on with your own thing - bet it is good though :thumbsup :thumbsup .

Made blueberry muffins and an apple and blackberry tart - nothing mindblowing, but our favourites.

I entered a cookie recipe in the holiday baking contest at our local (Minneapolis, not St. Paul) newspaper. This meant that I needed to make a batch to photograph and include in the email. The recipe was for "Chocolate Chip Sandies" a fave of both Huz and guests.
basically its a shortbread recipe with vanilla, Kahlua, pecans & chips that is formed into crescents and dipped into melted chocolate....here's hoping :thumbsup
I was a published finalist when they started the competition 9 years ago....so don't know whether I'll be considered or not.
As I was making them last Friday, some of the neighborhood teens were raking and bagging leaves around my house. They arrived as I was taking them out of the oven, and finished just as the last one had been dipped in the melted chocolate.....Happy, happy teenagers. A little culinary bribery goes a long way (well that and $20)
